Promising Practices for Distance Counselling for Sexual Violence

In partnership with Anova and Sexual Assault Centre Kingston (SACK), EVA Canada launched a pan-Canadian survey for practitioners on distance counselling for sexual violence.  The survey findings revealed the many ways that practitioners have adapted and innovated in the face of increased pressures and client loads. We compiled all of these learnings into a report entitled “Promising Practices for Sexual Violence Distance Counselling” full of tangible tools and takeaways for counsellors.

One of the clear outcomes that survey participants wanted was a professional development learning session focused on how to effectively “do” distance counselling. This webinar brings together a set of distance-specific, survivor-centred, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, anti-racist therapeutic practices that promote: survivor safety, strong therapeutic alliance, technology applications, and improved access and inclusion.

Sexual Violence & COVID-19: Frontline Perspectives

This webinar brought together eight frontline workers, advocates and organizational leaders from across the country in June 2020 to explore the impacts of COVID-19 and discuss the distinct and unique impact on sexual violence services and survivors.

In addition to providing a snapshot of the ways COVID-19 shaped sexual violence response within their own organization/region, the panelists also spoke to the impact on specific areas of sexual violence response including specialized therapeutic counselling, crisis and support lines, hospital-based services and hospital accompaniment, professional development and educational programming, and sexual assault response teams.

Research Spotlight: COVID-19 and Gender-Based Violence

Hosted in collaboration with Anova (Ontario), EVA Canada organized a virtual dialogue bringing together 15 researchers and advocates across the country who were individually doing research on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender-based violence services, service providers, and survivors.

The event was developed in order to identify common themes and areas of focus, as well as gaps in the research and opportunities for further exploration and collaboration.
